Christmas Cookies

My daughter loves sugar cookies and she loves to make sugar cookies. After a quick Internet search, she settled on a recipe that claims to be "The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies". The clever girl got to work and had the dough put together so quickly I didn't even have time to document the process.

The dough is ready to go into the refrigerator to chill until tomorrow.

The next day my help was enlisted. This is the mise en place for the royal icing. We opted to make only a half batch.

Random shapes ready for the oven. Sadly, I was so busy helping my daughter that I was unable to take many pictures.

Sprinkles adorn some of the lucky cookies.

The Indiana University student ices other cookies. I would like to note that nary a seasoning packet or boxed convenience product was used in the making of these cookies. My daughter says "take that, Sandra Lee!"

The house smells wonderful. And the best part? My husband and I even got to eat a couple of these delightful treats.

Just in case any of you were wondering what my Holiday Tablescape looks like. This vignette is confined to one end of the table to allow for actual food and dining.

Wishing you and yours the very best of the season.
Happy Holidays!

What a lovely subdued holiday tablescape. Sometimes, less is more, a concept, sadly, that Sandra Lee has never comprehended.
