An Evening at the Scottish Rite

My dear husband and I had been invited to a special
evening at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis.

My husband enjoys his Masonic endeavors.
I am happy for him and am happy to support him.

This late in the season,
it is mainly the oaks that are in color.

I hate to say it, but the deep russets and browns
are growing on me.

This is in Monument Circle.

Psst, we were forced to make this detour
due to a car fire in a parking garage next
to our regular route.
And we were already running late.

Go figure.
Isn't how that it always works?

At least you got to see some different pictures.

We finally arrived
and I was directed to go downstairs with the other women
while my husband went elsewhere.

Hey, I've got wine, cheese, fruit and crackers.

I think I've got the best end of this deal.

An hour or so later, after much delightful conversation
with the other ladies, we were reunited with the gentlemen.

It was time for our dinner.

As usual, Thomas Caterers of Distinction did not disappoint.

The salad course was a plate of mixed greens
with feta cheese, craisins, and walnuts with a
balsamic vinaigrette.

Very nice and just what we have come to expect
from this fine caterer.

The entree.

Roast beef, nicely rare, with a creamy pepper sauce,
haricot verts with slivered almonds,
roasted and quartered red potatoes
and carrot souffle.

The carrot souffle is to die for.

Thomas Caterers used to have the recipe on their web site,
but they have taken it down recently.

*Cough, cough.
You might try typing "carrot souffle" in the search bar
on this blog site and you just might strike pay dirt.
Just saying.

The dessert  was a delightful and decadent creme brulee.

Look at that:
real vanilla seeds in the creme brulee.

Of course,
I couldn't resist taking pics of the building afterwards.

This is in the banquet hall in the basement.

A bronze statue.

Hand carved relief over a door.

Plaster relief.

Is it just me or does that remind me of Mr. Krabs?

Bronze statue of a mother with child.

Another bronze statue.

Hand carved wood work.

More hand carved wood work.

LED lights hi-light the the tower at night.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.
If you ever find yourself in Indianapolis,
you simply must tour the Scottish Rite Cathedral.
Most days it is open for tours and there are
knowledgeable tour guides available
who can show you around this remarkable building.
You will not be disappointed.

I might be making the carrot souffle today. I found the ingredients, but your power went out before you cooked it. How long is the cooking time?

Place in a greased 8"x8" pan and bake at 275 degrees for 45 minutes or until just firm.

Any leftovers can be turned into a rich soup with the addition of cream.
