Sure Signs that Spring is Here

Cut daffodils from my garden

(the third cutting).

The forsythia are blooming.

Um, this old barn is blooming?

Oh, heck.

I just like it.

So deal with it.

The daffodils are blooming down by the creek.

And the forsythia are still abloomin'.

The landscapers are out with the trucks

full of mulch and lawn tools.

Hey, why don't you head over to my place?

More forsythia.

Vinca minor, or periwinkle, in bloom.

Please note that in wooded areas,

vinca minor is a nuisance plant that can

"escape" from landscapes and then

"run" into the woods.

In my limited experience,

vinca minor doesn't seem to like to

traverse the land ruled by the lawn mower.

Star Magnolia in bloom.

We are in luck this year.

Usually, this tender shrub is hit by a late frost,

and the showy blooms are lost.

The owners of this shrub are brave people.

That or very foolish.

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

And look:

two tepees have sprung up in a nearby field.

How very odd.

I might just have to track down the owners of this field

and find out why they put these tepees

up every spring.

And the surest sign of spring?

Why construction, of course!

See?

And now a brief aside.

I just love this sign on our local business,

Buddy Bill's Bait Barn.

Have language trouble with.

Construction time.

Construction time.

The most wonderful time of the year!

Sing it with me!

Ooh, getting the pretty boat ready for the lake.

And would you look at what I woke up to

see out my window this morning.

Right in my own front yard.

Heh.
