The Calm Before the Superstorm

Sunday evening I sat outside for a while on the deck and watched the sun set.

 This was a briefer sunset than that of the other evening.

 It was still pretty, though.

 Later that night I looked out the window and saw a halo around the full moon.

The halo is caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.  They are often seen when storms, such as Hurricane Sandy, are nearby.

Meteorologists fielded many calls from people in the West and Midwest who saw this phenomenon on the evening of October 28.

Whatever the cause, a lunar halo is a striking sight.

The Foodie Family is thinking about all of our friends and readers on the East coast who are affected by Sandy.

A Lovely Winter Sunset

I looked out my back windows this evening

to see the sky lit with colors as the sun

sank below the horizon.

It was a lovely but cold day.

And it was a delightful sunset.

Indiana University Football

and Fall Weather

Yesterday was another big home game for IU.

Michigan was coming to town.

The game was a sell-out.

IU Memorial Stadium has a capacity of 52, 929 fans.

You wouldn't believe the noise.

He works security for IUPD

and was working the sidelines

across the way

by the student section.




Remember how I was complaining about the lack of rain?



Be careful what you wish for.

This day of all days,

it finally decided to rain.



The rain started just as we left the house

and ended right before game time.



It was only a quarter of an inch of rain.



Not much, but just enough

to put a damper on our tailgating duties.

Between plays

I watched the clouds roll by.

The game was close

and IU held on,

determined to win against

the powerhouse that is Michigan.

The crowds stayed to the bitter end.

Even as the clouds cleared out.

Alas,

IU fell in the final minute of play,

after failing to score in the final seconds

of the game in order to force the game

into overtime.

IU 35
